Ch…Ch…Ch…Changes.

I never had a sister growing up but always always wanted one. Then, when I was a teenager, I started to become close to my cousin, Leah. She was 6 years my senior and I remeber thinking that she was the coolest, most gorgeous girl on the planet! I wanted so much to be like her and emmulated a lot of what she did. I remember us both dating in our twenties, and thinking that all the good men were taken. We were each other’s solace and hope. When one felt down and out, the other would renew the faith!! We had our ups and downs and in between. Now, twelve years later, I still think she is the coolest, most gorgeous girl on the planet, she is the sister I always wanted!

Her husband, Andy, was re-stationed from Georgia to El Paso, Texas, which is about a million miles away from Charleston. Not only am I losing her, but I’m losing her babies too!! So, last week, I traveled to Atlanta to photograph her family one more time before they moved. When I got home and was sorting through the pictures, I couldn’t believe how grown up her babies are, how grown up WE are! Where has the time gone? It seems like only yesterday, I was in college, chasing around a 1.5 year old Emily with my camera. Now, at age six, she is more beautiful then ever! And Little Tyler, well, is not so little anymore! His big, bright eyes and sweet smiles are the same, but he’s lost his curls and all signs of babyness have gone…

I truly love and am going to miss them all!

This first picture was taken many years ago, while in college with my FILM camera (hence why it is grainy). Back in the days where I loaded my film, and developed my own pictures in my dark room. I miss those days sometimes…digital is awesome but just not the same!!

Then…

And Now…

Then…

And Now…

Thanks for looking. :)

It’s still funny.

So, when Jeff and I moved in our new house about a year ago, there was a little stray dog that had taken up residence in our garage. The morning that we closed on our house, while standing in our soon-to-be garage with our builder, Sam, this little guy popped his head in and it was love at first sight! His little sad eyes quenched my heart and screamed for me to take him in and love him forever. The only problem was, he was scared of EVERYONE! Whenever anyone would get within 10 feet of him he’d run away. Turns out, the whole neighborhood had been trying to catch him for months but nobody could ever get close enough to get him.

So for the next week, I bugged and bugged the builder anytime I saw him around our neighborhood, “have you seen my little doggy?” He would always laugh and shake his head. I made builder Sam promise me that if he ever got close enough to the little dog that he’d bring him to me. Sure enough, about a week later, our doorbell rang at 7:30 am. I knew instantly that it was Sam and that he’d caught the dog and I was right!

That first day he was SO mangy and dirty. He had fleas and ticks and probably some other small creatures hidden in his fur. I instantly took him to the vet and then to the groomers. I’ll never forget the shock that I felt the first time we got him shaved. When they brought him out, they had to convince me that it was the same dog. I laughed and laughed and laughed. Before his grooming, we really weren’t sure what kind of dog Sammie was, but it was made very clear to us afterward that he is a poodle!

Now, almost a year later, I can honestly say that I A•DORE this little dog. He is my shadow and has such personality, I just love him to death. I can’t, for the life of me, understand why anyone would have put him out or allowed him to get lost. Anyway, since it’s summer and it’s like 100 degrees outside, I’ve known for the last few weeks it was time to get him shaved again. I L-O-V-E shaggy Sammie but I don’t want him to be too hot. So today, when I picked him up from the groomers, I chuckled just like I always do and remembered that first time. It never gets old, everytime, it’s still funny.

Beautiful Family.

Last week I was in Hot-lanta doing some family sessions. These girls and their little brother were so much fun to photograph! Little Garrett was full of energy and thought that me taking his picture was just the funniest thing ever! His laugh was so cute and intoxicating, it warmed my heart. Then, his sisters, mom and I headed to downtown Monroe to do an ultra cool teen session! These girls were so easy to photograph. They were both so natural and beautiful in front of the camera, they really made my job easy. Don’t I sure wish I looked as cute as them when I was their age!! Here is a slideshow for all to enjoy!

Please give it a minute or two to load and make sure your speakers are on! :)

Oh How I Love Him.

I love him because he’s so “manly” but not too “manly” to take silly pictures with me.

I love him because his smile sets my heart at ease.

I love him because at night when he is long asleep and I’m still tossing and turning, he will just snuggle up to me and mutter “I love you so much.”

I love him because I have a tall white vase in my office and he keeps fresh flowers in it. (this week is star-gazer lilies. MMM!)

I love him because when he comes home from a late night meeting and I’m sitting in bed with my laptop in lap, hair pulled back and my geeky glasses on, he tells me how beautiful he thinks I am.

I love him because he always calls.  Always.

I love him because he has a big soft spot in his heart for our doggies.  Its cute.
